Charlottenburg

Charlottenburg is the historic centre of West Berlin and remains the city's most polished, mature, and traditionally-affluent residential district. Anchored by the Kurfurstendamm (Berlin's premier shopping boulevard), the KaDeWe department store, and the baroque Charlottenburg Palace, the neighborhood retains the established, slightly conservative feel that distinguished West Berlin during the Cold War. Residential prices range from EUR 6,500-11,000 per square metre with gross yields of 3.0-3.8%. The district has the highest concentration of established Berliners (multi-generational residents), legal and medical professionals, and senior corporate executives. Beautiful Grunderzeit and Altbau buildings line wide tree-shaded streets. The neighborhood is more sedate than Mitte or Kreuzberg, with high-end shopping, traditional cafes (Cafe Kranzler), and elegant restaurants. Strong transit via Bahnhof Zoo, Savignyplatz, and multiple U-Bahn lines.
